Our Story

Karungi Child-Mothers Network for single mothers and their children is a faith-based charity foundation that was formed by a team of social workers in Uganda with intentions of supporting single mothers and their children in the struggles and hardships they face in life, so that they can live a meaningful and graceful life in their communities.

In our recent survey, we have observed that very many single mums and their children are struggling to survive in different communities. They are faced with challenges of poverty, discrimination, and abuses from society, unemployment, hunger, plus many other issues and problems.

After our interactions with these single mothers, we found out that majority of them are faced with depression, fear, and anxiety, because they don’t know how they will survive with their children in the day-to-day life. A majority of the single mothers have resorted to a toxic lifestyle to be able to provide for their children, which has negatively impacted the lives of their children. The children are also faced with depression, anxiety, and fear.

Single mothers in various communities have resorted to prostitution to be able to provide for their needs and the needs of their children, like food, shelter, education clothing, and medical aid. Some have become drunkards in the society, because of depression and pain of being abandoned by their husbands, and neglected by society.

Every single mother has her own story as to why they are apparently single. Some are victims of domestic violence, rape, husbands passing away making them widows, adulterous husbands, and irresponsible husbands who abandon their wives and children.

The bad lifestyle some of the single mothers have adopted have resulted in them contracting HIV/aids, sexually transmitted diseases, and others have committed suicide. At Karungi Child-Mothers Network, with the help of God, well-wishers, agencies, sponsors, donors, and the community, we believe that together, with so much compassion and empathy, we all can improve the lives of these single mothers and their children, so that they live a fulfilled life with a purpose in life.

Our Journey and Dedication

l am Karungi Maria, a Ugandan by nationality and the founder of Karungi Child-Mothers Network. I am blessed with amazing personality traits like empathy, kindness, and compassion, but above all am a God fearing woman and mother.

One night a young single mother came to my place with a little baby wanting to abandon her child at my doorstep, but after counseling and guiding her along the right path she made the right decision to love her baby and not give up on life. The depression, sadness, pain, anger, frustration, loneliness, hunger, poverty with no hope in life l saw in the eyes and the physical appearance of this single mother touched my heart, and when she and her baby left l never remained the same.

My attachment towards single mothers and their children kept growing till l asked God to place His desires in my heart. God's desires were finally placed in my heart, and they became my desires as well. That’s when l finally decided to start a foundation supporting single mothers and cherishing their children. God is the author and owner of this foundation and in Him l entrust Him with this work which He has given me to do, and with a great team of staff, well-wishers, sponsors, and donors, we shall surely give a helping hand to single mothers and their children, so that they can have a purpose in life with hope and faith in God standing on the word of God, which tells us that he has plans to prosper us and not fail us, plans to give us hope and a good future.

Let’s join hands to support single mothers and their children in Uganda.
